Writing in my native language
I am not a native English speaker. Although I read and write in English frequently, I am most comfortable with Hebrew, my native language. Growing up, I read a lot in Hebrew, which shaped my love for and knowledge of the language (is that one of the reasons I chose to study linguistics? Perhaps...).
Given that, I find it odd not to spend most of my writing in Hebrew. So why am I writing in English? Well, I know this may not resonate with everyone around here, but I care about who reads my blog, and I want my posts to be accessible to as many people as possible. Writing in English helps me achieve that. The IndieWeb and the world of small blogs have a certain charm and magic, but they are not the best way to be discovered. If I wrote in Hebrew, who would be able to read it?
Yet, there are times, like now, when I miss writing in my native language in a way that feels most familiar to me.
