Read the Book That Makes You Want to Read

I've been reading books since I was five (Harry Potter was my first), and I've loved it ever since—the ability to dive into a world that may be like ours but may also be completely different, the relaxation of the reading act, flipping pages. Nonetheless, I have a complicated relationship with reading - over the years, I found myself reading less, and there were times when I didn't read anything.

In some way, I got addicted to the instant algorithmic excitement, as you could probably guess. But it's even worse than that — not only did I get addicted to a different kind of media, but I also forgot how much I enjoy reading. I forgot how a book can captivate me, keep me up at night, and make me read anxiously page after page, wanting to know what will happen next.

Whenever I feel like I'm forgetting these things, I try to remind myself with a book I just know I will love. It could be a book by an author I admire, a book recommended by someone I appreciate, or "just" a quick thriller by Harlan Coben, which I know I can finish in one sitting. The only important thing is to maximize the chance that I will connect with it immediately. That is why I will not choose to read a complicated or sophisticated book after a long period of non-reading.

The book itself doesn't matter; its purpose is to remind me how much I love reading. From there, everything will follow.
